Speech Title:The Journey of Journal Publishing.

Abstract:Publishing a research article is a journey! We will discuss challenges and advice on preparing, submitting, and revising research manuscripts to increase the probability of acceptance at a top-tier journal. The insights are based on my experiences as editor-in-chief (EIC) of two journals, the first being Internet Research (Emerald, Impact Factor of 3.017 at the end of my tenure) and currently of Information Processing & Management (Elsevier, Impact Factor of 6.222). The focus will be on the mechanics of the journey, including cover letters, items on a manuscript checklist, what happens to your manuscript once submitted, handling communication with the EIC and other editors, the crafting of the response to the reviewers, the revising of the manuscript, and polishing the accepted article. We will also touch on the influence of citations, impact factors, and the contribution of reviewing on the academic research process, in what will hopefully be a discussion more than a presentation. The take aways will be tactics to improve your chances for a top tier journal acceptance.

Keywords:Journal articles, journal publishing, peer review, citation, impact factor.

Speech Title:How Artificial Intelligence Changed Medical Decisions – Past, Present, Future

Abstract:Artificial intelligence (AI) is emergent paradigm nowadays with enormous potential to increase quality of any software system and service. Different ICT approaches were employed in health information systems starting from traditional ones towards nowadays modern intelligent techniques and approaches. Development and improvement of intelligent techniques are constantly influencing implementation of higher quality intelligent and personalized health and medical systems. On the other hand in modern dynamic society more and more, even young people suffer from chronical and serious diseases. Accordingly, different health and medical stakeholders have recognized importance of development of appropriate services to help patients suffering from different kinds of diseases but also to help old/disabled people in making their life easier and if possible to increase their health quality of life issues. Patient’s complex big data (like clinical, environmental, nutritional, everyday activities…) is needed and it is necessary to properly aggregate such data, analyze it and present to the doctors/caregivers to recommend adequate treatment and interventions to patients. The intention of this presentation is to give a brief overview of use of different ICT and AI techniques in traditional and modern health and medical information systems. The gathering, processing, and using huge amounts of data in precision medicine influenced by powerful techniques and approaches liek Data Mining, Machine Learning, Federated Learning, Metaverse, Agents will be considered. Some typical systems will be presented inspired by authors’ long-lasting experiences in using such methods in numerous applications. Additionally, we will summarize how modern AI approaches will influence development of future personalized and intelligent medical services.
